Art Lesson: Creating a Character

In this lesson, the class was shown how to create an original character using distinct features and colors. The instructors showed a column of basic versions of a category, ex: stereotypical cartoon man, stereotypical cartoon robot, etc. Then next column showed well-known characters. The class discussed the differences between the versions and what made the famous characters recognizable. The first 7 images are staff examples, see if you can recognize the characters! Following the instructor examples are the student creations.

This weekend, The Arc of The Arts Studio is participating in the West Austin Studio Tour. Stop by the gallery at 6717 Burnet Rd. anytime between 11-6pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 19th and 20th (classes on Saturday are running as usual.) We encourage you to not only stop by our studio, but also check out some local art. The tour is made up of over 160 participants spread throughout West Austin. Artists are opening their galleries as well as homes, garages, backyards and driveways to anyone who wishes to view their work.

The Arc of the Arts joins Generousart.org

The Arc of the Arts is excited to announce that we have joined Generousart.org, a website that uniquely markets local Austin artists and allows them to give back to local non-profits. As a listed non-profit through Generous Art, we now have the opportunity to receive funds from artist sales through the website.

Artists join Generous Art sell their work through the website and donate 40% of their sale to a non-profit of their choice.

Happy Valentine’s Video!

It’s Valentine’s Day and it just so happens that we’ve finished editing our first round of skits and episodes for everyone to watch!

Thanks to everyone who offered support if we made it to the final round of Toshiba’s Help the Helpers contest. We’re looking forward to putting another video together for a fundraising opportunity in the next month or so since we didn’t get into the final round for Toshiba. In the meantime we’ve updated our wish list and if there’s anything on the list you’d like to help us out with, please contact us at The Arc of The Arts (512) 524-2371.

We’ve started a new variety show and would love everyone’s suggestions on what to name the show! It’ll continue to be a variety show similar to this video, we just want a fun title besides “The Arc of The Arts Variety Show”. Let us know your ideas in the comments!
