Abstract Portrait / Guitar Lesson

In a recent lesson, the class explored the work of Pablo Picasso. We looked at examples of his earliest works from childhood, the valley of his Blue Period, and the peaks of his romantic Rose Period. The focus of the lesson however was on his cubist and abstract pieces. Discussion revolved around the use of unconventional shapes and atypical placement to change the way we depict and see ordinary things. The students made either portrait or guitar collages, using the inspiration of Picasso’s unique artistic lens.
