Tuesdays at the Arc are dedicated to music, dance, and filmmaking. Each Tuesday after lunch, we pull our chairs into a circle and belt out songs by artists like The Beatles, Tom Petty, and John Denver while one of our instructors plays the guitar. One of the most recent additions to our setlist is the 1983 hit “Islands in the Stream,” written by the Bee Gees but made popular by Kenny Rogers and the incomparable Dolly Parton. Inspired by our rendition of this romantic duet, Davey did a painting of Dolly and Kenny, surrounded by the lyrics to the song. The response to the piece was overwhelming, so Davey decided to do another. So far, Davey has tackled Sonny and Cher (“I’ve Got You Babe”), Johnny and June (“Ring of Fire”), and Trisha and Garth (“To Make You Feel My Love”). We can’t wait to see who he picks next.
Davey’s work will be on display this weekend as a part of the West Austin Studio Tour, so stop by and check it out!
